Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has been dropped by head coach Ruben Amorim for Sunday evening's English Premier League fixture, according to reports in the British Media.

The undefire Onana was at fault for United's 2-2 draw at Lyon in the Europa League quarterfinal first leg Thursday.

His mistake allowed Rayan Cherki to equalise for the home side in injury time to force a stalemate at the Parc Olympique Lyon in France.

It was not the first high profile blunder caused by Onana and as such has necessitated him being dropped for the trip to Newcastle.

According to Italian Journalist Fabrizio Romano, Onana has been rested and will return to the squad for the second leg against Lyon on Thursday.

"André Onana has not travelled with Man United's squad for today and won’t be part of the team against Newcastle. Altay Bayindir set to make his Premier League debut," he said on X Sunday.

According to Romano, Onana won’t even be on the bench for Man United today, as Amorim wanted him to disconnect from football after a difficult week.

"Amorim told Onana about his decision after OL game, while the GK is expected to return as part of the squad on Thursday for the 2nd leg," Romano reported.

On Thursday, Amorim defended Onana from criticism, arguing that everyone makes mistakes.

"If you look at the season, I make more mistakes than them during these last games and these last months."

Liverpool will attempt to close in on their twentieth league crown when they host West Ham at Anfield.

The Reds have been boosted by the fact that Arsenal, who are second, drew against Brentford at home yesterday.

Currently, as it stands, if Liverpool beat West Ham and Leicester City in their upcoming matches and Arsenal lose to Ipswich next weekend, they will officially be champions.
